Born in the year 1855 at Shahpur ( Pakistan ) in village Jahania Shah to opulent and fortunate parents. His mother expired when he was a child and was brought up by his aunt ( chachi ) and was very playful. Baba Hari Singh Ji came to his village for a religious congergation ( Gurmat Vichar ) .Baba Jawahar Singh Ji's aunt casually complained to Baba Hari Singh Ji about his playful nature. Baba Ji said that Jawahar Singh Ji be given to him. He was asked to serve in the Guru ka langer and he served for almost 25 years.

He had a strong belief in Gurubani ( Japji Sahib & Sukhmani Sahib ). He would ask Sikhs who paid a visit to his Daramshala if they coducted the reverences of these bani's. In case if the person would decline he made sure that the person took a vow to enchant these Bani's. Once, Sant Singh Nalwa ( desendant of Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa, Sikh General of Maharaja Ranjit Singh's Army ) came to meet him and was asked the same question, if he enchanted these bani's, he declined. Baba Ji immediately asked him to pledge, before taking the langer, that from this day onward he would be regular in his reverences. He was very particular about the conduct of people who were associated with him.

Baba Jawahar Singh Ji was a firm believer and had full faith in the "Guruvansh" of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. His Khunda was bestowed by Baba----- of Guruvansh He started a school " Guru Nanak High School" providing free education to children of Mitha Tiwana. As the area was quiet a backward and much was required to be done. Baba ji added on new contructions to the Dharamshala and improved on the amenities.

He devoted most of his life in the service of visually impaired people. He would personally help them in their daily course of bathing and other activities. He also assisted them in learning Gurbani Kirtan so that they morally felt strong.

The 15th day of August 1947 was a black day in the history of India. To enforce a forcible change of population, the Hindus and the Sikhs of the area were attacked by the Muslims from nearby areas. The Gurdwara and Dharamshala over the years got built like a compound with all aminities to support large number of people for few days. Afraid of that revolutionary upheaval and turbulence, few thousand people took refuge in that Dharamshala.

Baba Jawahar Singh Ji for his clairvoyant prowess had already foreseen the bad times coming ahead and had stored large quantity of commodities and other unavoidable necessities for the people. The riotous mob attempted several attacks on the Dharamshala, but Kazi Tufahil Ahmed ,who was very close, to Baba Ji saved Dharamshala each time. Finally the Muslims decided to send the Kazi to another village on the pretext of solemanising a marriage (nikah). This time as the mob was approching Babaji could not see Kazi any where to rescue them, He finally made his prayer to the most high . By the time he stepped out of the Gurdwara he saw rescue armed forces chasing away the mob. Baba Ji made sure that each one was sent safe on the army trucks to a safe camp in India before he left the Dharmashala.

Baba Jawahar Singh Ji went to Khalsa College, Amritsar and served the people in the Refuge Camps along with his sewadars. Baba Ji had also setup a Dera at Amritsar in the year 1942-1943 near Chowk Baba Sahib. He continued his services from the Dera for few months till the chaos had settled.

Baba Jawahar Singh Ji assigned the duty of managing the Dera and helping the needy in every aspect. While he moved to Hoshiarpur along with his sewadars. In Hoshiarpur his devotees generously donated their house (Purani Kothi ) to Baba Jawahar Singh Ji for his Dera. Baba ji started Sangat & Pangat from this place for few years. In the mean time he purchased land near to his Dera and started constructing a new structure for Dera .

The Dera complex was completed in about four to five years. He named the Dera after his Baba Hari Singh Ji and Baba Bhagat Singh Ji as

Baba Ji continued his sewa till the age of 103 years of his life till he breath last on 26 th day of Feburary 1958AD . The responsibilty of managing the Dera and taking the cause of Bhai Kanhaiya was borne by Baba Jamiat Singh Ji.
